Rules and Regulations

Check-in will take place on September 12, 13 & 14 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm at Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant,

Advanced registration is encouraged, however you may register at check-in.

ALL canvases/panels/paper MUST be stamped PRIOR to painting. No unstamped art will be accepted for the show. No pre-painted, or marked supports will be stamped, an evenly stained surface however is allowed. The size of the image is not to exceed 60 united inches (combined width and height). Artists must provide their own materials.

Each work of art must be STARTED AND COMPLETED en plein air, during the event days and in the area allocated.

Artists may paint any subject/scene outdoors, within 10 km on either side of the Grand River, starting at the North end at Paris, ending at the Oxbow at Six Nations of the Grand. Maps will be provided at check-in. Some photographs of suggested locations will be available for viewing at check-in. A map can be found under menu/map on this site.

All stamped working surfaces must be turned in to be stored overnight at the Syl Apps Community Centre, 51 William St, Paris, ON N3L 1L2, (519) 442-3342.

If you want to continue working on a painting the following day, you can pick up your artwork between 7:00-9:00 am on Friday and/or Saturday (you will need to bring your identification number with you for pick up). Syll Apps will also be open 3:00-7:00 pm Wednesday to Friday for drop off.

Artists will select their artworks for jurying and the sale, and are responsible for picking up the remainder of their canvasses and work from Syl Apps Community Centre between 9:30 and 11:45am on Saturday, September 15. A maximum of 3 works per artist will be accepted. Frames are discretionary but are recommended for paintings on panels. A 30% commission applies to all sales.

The show and sale of work will take place on Saturday, September 15 at the Syll Apps Community Center, Paris ON. 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Winner will be announced at 1:00 pm.

Any stamped panels or support NOT returned for storage on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night will be stricken from the list of paintings by that artist eligible for submitting to the juror, but can still be included in the sale.

The organization of Brant Colours assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to any work, display or person during this event.


The artist must be registered for the event to participate in the show and sale. Artwork for the show must be turned in at the Syll Apps Community Building, Paris ON, between no later than 11:45 on Saturday, September 15th. The artist may select up to 3 pieces for the show.

All artwork for the show must have the artist clearly identified on the back as well as the Stamp. A card must be attached to the work of art stating the artist’s name, title of the work and price.

Works of art must be submitted in a manner that allows for easy handling and display on an easel, table easel, or wall.

Event staff will set up the artwork for the jury process and exhibition on Saturday morning. Artists should be prepared to leave their artwork until the end of the show at 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 15th.

Artwork may be picked up at the Syll Apps Community Centre, September 15 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Any artwork not removed by 6:00 pm becomes the property of the Brant Colours organization and will be disposed off as they see fit.


As an entrant of the 2018 Brant Colours Plein Air event, I understand that the organization reserves the right to not accept paintings that do not fall within the rules of the competition.

I declare that the work(s) of art submitted for the show are my own work, are made without instruction of others, and I am not aware of any ownership of copyright of another person to the image.

I acknowledge receipt of the rules governing the event and agree, as a condition of entering the show, that the Brant Colours organization may publicize and/or broadcast my name, likeness, photograph of my work and the fact that I participated in the event.
